DESCRIPTION:

      Located in the northern part of the country, along the Tisa River, and guarded by the imposing Carpathian Mountains, Maramures is one of the last truly rural regions of Europe. Is the land of wooden churches, well-kept traditions, splendid natural landscapes, and kind people.

    Our tour includes:

 

DAY 1

​

1. Ciocanesti Village - Located at the Maramures gate in the Bucovina region, is considered a museum of Eastern European Village life. You can find here geometrical paintings on the walls of every house, painted eggs, and  Romanian traditional clothing.

​

2. Horses Waterfall-(Cascada Cailor)is located within the Piatra Rea nature reserve, approximately 3 km from the Borsa resort. Is a 100-meter-high waterfall that plunges down the mountains in three steps (40-20-40 meters).

​

3. Ieud church - UNESCO traditional wood church from 14th century. 

​

4. Poienile Izei - experience the ancient washing technique known as "la valtoare" and take a tour of a traditional brandy (țuică) factory.

DAY 2

​

5. Barsana Monastery - The monastery's church is 56 meters high and is the tallest wooden structure in Europe.

​

6. Sighetul Marmatiei Memorial Museum - The first museum dedicated to the victims of communism and resistance. 

​

7. Sapanta - Merry Cemetery - Over 800 wooden crosses bear the life stories, dirty details, and final moments of the bodies they mark.

​

8. Sapanta Peri Monastery - Is one of the most representative churches for Maramures. The tower is 78 meters tall and the building is considered the tallest wooden church in the world, being registered in the Guinness Book.

​

9. Breb Village - You will find the traditions, culture, costumes, and country way of life as perfectly preserved as it is anywhere.

10. Mocanita - The nostalgic steam locomotive from Vișeul de Sus will take you on an incredibly picturesque journey along the lush, green Vaser Valley, into the high Carpathian Mountains.
